Could big data hold the answer to more efficient recruitment?

Companies have been advised that using big data to fill their vacancies could lead to a huge increase in applicants.

Giles Guest, director and owner at Enhance Media, recently told a packed crowd at MediaTel’s annual Year Ahead 2014 conference that big data held the key to more successful recruiting.

The IT expert said the gains from utilising huge banks of online data to find the right candidates could lead to a 50 per cent lift in conversion rates for job applications. He claimed that big data can also have an effect at the other end of the scale, creating a 300 per cent increase in the number of applicants.

However, cited by, Mr Guest said many companies are missing out on such gains due to their lack of understanding of how big data works. 

Citing research from Enhance, he stated that engagement was constantly being misinterpreted, with this being an issue for 25 per cent of companies.

Mr Guest said a total of 51 per cent feel their current recruitment data is ineffective and 25 per cent believe they could be making better use of the information at their disposal.
